Maintaining a luxury guest experience while completing a major renovation requires careful planning, precise execution, and strong coordination between project partners. That was especially true during a multi-year flooring renovation at the JW Marriott in downtown Grand Rapids.
Over the course of more than two years, the project was completed in carefully planned phases, with groups of floors taken offline one at a time to minimize disruption to hotel operations and guests. The challenge was clear: complete extensive flooring updates while keeping downtime as short as possible and maintaining the high standards guests expect from one of the region's premier hospitality destinations.
Custer partnered with Pinnacle Construction to provide and install custom carpet and hardwood flooring throughout the property. Through detailed scheduling and close coordination among trades, the project moved efficiently from phase to phase. Pinnacle Construction orchestrated the overall flow of the renovation, ensuring each trade remained on schedule and accountable throughout the process.
The finished spaces feature custom carpeting from OWI Carpet Mill and hardwood flooring from Mercier Hardwood, bringing renewed warmth, durability, and sophistication to the guest experience.
By carefully phasing the work and maintaining a disciplined project schedule, the renovation was completed with minimal disruption to hotel operations—allowing the JW Marriott to continue delivering the elevated experience guests expect.
